Michael's StoryHi there! My name is Michael Canham . I'm42 years old and on October 13 in the early morning hours I suffered a stroke. After spending several hours in the emergency room I was admitted into the hospital for a very long nine days stay.
When I was admitted to the hospital, I decided then and there and told myself that I was not going to become "that" patient and that I was going to stay positive. Work hard and do all that I could so that I could to come home.
As I said nine days later I got to come home. And yes I worked my butt off will I was there. While I was in the hospital I worked with the social worker and he told me that I needed to look into getting disability from my work upon calling my human resources we found out that my work doesn't offer any disability.
Since it's been almost 2 weeks since I've been at work I've used all of my personal time off and I don't have any money coming in because I'm not working so I am in desperate need of some kind of help and assistance. I'm scared because I know that the hospital bill is going to be way in the thousands and I don't have the money to pay for that this time.
One thing I learned while I was in the hospital was that I had a let go of my pride and there were a lot of situations that I had to just let go of and let it be, and now I'm learning that I have to do that with my life because I'm going t to need as much help as I can and I'm having to rely on people to help me which is one thing that's really hard for me because I'm very self-sufficient and I hate asking for help.
